Econic for renewable heat initiatives

A variety of renewable and traditional technology is located in the plant room to convert sources of energy into useful heat to provide hot water and heating for buildings.

Various equipment can be used across the spectrum of renewable energy technologies, sometimes combined with traditional systems to provide the hot water, heating and cooling requirements for our buildings.

Heat Pump Technology – most heat pumps use electricity to drive a compressor which then interacts with a working fluid with known thermal characteristics. This is used to convert a gas to a liquid which releases latent heat.

Ground Source Heat Pumps – collect heat from or reject heat to the relatively stable temperatures of the earth. They are most predictable and efficient renewable technologies when correctly designed and installed.

Heat pumps that derive their energy from water can either take water directly from the ground (open loop system) or circulate loops of pipe through a body of water such as a river or lake (closed loop system). The source of energy may be different, but in all other respects are virtually identical to ground source heat pumps.

Air Source Heat Pumps – the air around us is an excellent source of heat or coolth which these units simply harness. They are a good choice if space and budget are an issue.

Whilst Econic specialise in heat pump and solar thermal technologies, we have experience in other renewable systems and of traditional fossil fuel technologies. Careful consideration is required when integrating all these systems together and how they will be controlled.
